Race Report – Mid-Ohio

Winward Racing left Mid-Ohio with three top-6 finishes in two races, letting the team finally get the results to show for the speed they have had all year.

In the first race, both Winward teams came home with top-4 finishes.

“It was a long day for us,” Team Manager Alberto Pena said. “We had qualifying at 8 a.m. then raced and had another qualifying at 7 p.m., so it was nice to get the result we did.

“Everyone executed their job very well. Pit stops were good and drivers did very well! All and all, it was a great day.”

In the second race, both cars qualified well and ran up front leading laps, but two separate incidents kept the cars off of the podium. The 4 car had contact that resulted in damage, while the 57 had to serve a penalty.

“The contact that the 4 car had was very unfortunate,” Pena said. “No doubt the car was very quick but the mustang just hit us in a sweet spot and the steering rack failed and we could not continue.

“On the 57, it was great to see them fighting in the front! Bryce had a mega stint and the crew did a great pit stop. Alec got the car in a great position and, unfortunately, had the contact that gave us the drive thru penalty. It was just some hard racing with an unfortunate outcome.”

As the series heads to Road Atlanta, Pena thinks the Winward Team will continue to ride the wave of momentum.

“We are very confident going to Atlanta,” he said. “It suits the AMG very well and we are looking forward to it. I think we can get the win we are looking for. Everyone has been putting so much time in the program and we just need to execute.”

Road Atlanta is on October 16 and can be seen on
