Race Report: MOBIL 1 TWELVE HOURS OF SEBRING PRESENTED BY ADVANCE AUTO PARTS

The MOBIL 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advance Auto Parts proved to be an exciting and challenging race for Winward Racing. The team headed into the weekend of November 12th and 13th with their eyes focused on a podium finish to end the season, but experienced a disappointing finish.

“It was good to be back,” said Russell Ward, driver of the #4 Winward RacingMercedes-AMG GT GT4. “The Mercedes runs well at Sebring and we were excited to be back because we normally fly around that track. This time we didn’t.”

Both the #4 and the #57 qualified well with the #4 starting 7th and #57 starting 6th. The #4 ended up with a Top 20 finish in 15th and the #57 had to retire early due to crash

“It was disappointing for us because we didn’t have the pace we wanted and the results we were striving for,” Ward said. “The strategy was difficult to call and the cautions didn’t come together for us like they should have.”

“It was a frustrating end to the year, but we’ll be back at it within the month as we get ready for Daytona,” Ward said. “We’ve got a fast turn around after this last year and we’re looking to dominate in 2021.”

“While we had a difficult race, we have to thank our crew for being incredible for us,” said Ward. “Their performance was impressive and they really helped us where they could.”

Looking ahead to Daytona, Winward Racing will be back with the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge racing GT4. “We have lots to work on in the off season, but we’re ready to get back to it and be better than we’ve ever been,” said Ward.

Winward Racing couldn’t have completed this season without the dedication of our partners including Mercedes-AMG Motorsports, IMSA and its partners, Mobil1, First Horizon Bank, Mercedes Benz of Sugarland, and Techemet.

Next up on the race schedule is the 2021 Roar Before the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, FL, starting on Friday, January 22nd.
