21 Oct Race Report: MOTUL PETIT LE MANS at Road Atlanta
On Friday, November 16th, Winward Racing left Road Atlanta with a fifth place finish for the #4 and a 13th place finish the #57. While they headed home without the win they had been aiming for, they’re hungrier than ever for Laguna Seca.
“It was a long day for us,” Team Manager, Alberto Peña said. “Unfortunately, we didn’t get lucky with the full-course caution and it cost us. There weren’t many opportunities for us since the race pretty much ran under cautions most of the time.”
Team Winward had a new face joining them this past weekend, as Nico Bastian sharing the wheel of the #4 with Russell Ward.
“Nico has raced everywhere else except the States,” Team Manager, Alberto Peña said. “He’s raced Australia, Europe, all over, but this was his first time racing in the U.S. and he did a pretty good job overall.”
Both cars qualified well, as the #4 started 3rd and the #57 started 11th, with great pit stops for both cars and excellent focus and skills exhibited by the drivers.
As the series heads to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Peña thinks the Winward Team will continue to perform well and get the win they’re seeking.
“We’re looking forward to Laguna,” he said. “We’ve have won in the past and I think we can get the win we are looking for this season. The whole team is excited about this next race.”
Winward Racing couldn’t have completed this season without the dedication of our partners including Mercedes-AMG Motorsports, IMSA and its partners, Mobil1, First Horizon Bank, Mercedes Benz of Sugarland, and Techemet.
Next up on the race schedule is the Hyundai Monterey Sports Car Championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, starting at 6:35 p.m. EST on Saturday, October 31st.
