Race Report: WeatherTECH Raceway Laguna Seca

Winward Racing went into Laguna Seca on Friday, October 30th, with focus and determination to win at WeatherTech Raceway. They left with a fourth place finish for the #4 and a 10th place finish for the #57. With two top-10 finishes, they’re happy, but still aiming to finish out the 2020 season with a podium finish.

“Overall, the weekend wasn’t too bad,” Team Manager, Alberto Peña said. “We capitalized on everything we could and two top-10’s are very good things for us.”

“We can’t control the other cars around us, but we did everything we could to keep up so we’re definitely in a good spot. Our pit stops were great and drivers were on point, but Laguna Seca is definitely a weird race as far as strategy goes. Some guys take one pit stop, while others take two. It’s sometimes difficult to call.”

Both the #4 and #57 cars qualified well, as the #4 car qualified 3rd, while the #57 qualified 8th.

Looking ahead to the last race of the season at Sebring International Raceway, Winward Racing is excited about the 2020 MOBIL 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advance Auto Parts.

“We’re already planning for 2021 and preparing ourselves for what next season will bring,” said Peña. “Back-to-back weekends have been tough this season for everyone, our crew included. With not much of an off-season, we’re planning and strategizing to give ourselves a great opportunity for next year.”

“Our crew guys and drivers are training hard and maximizing whatever we can to bring be our best in 2021.”Winward Racing couldn’t have completed this season without the dedication of our partners including Mercedes-AMG Motorsports, IMSA and its partners, Mobil1, First Horizon Bank, Mercedes Benz of Sugarland, and Techemet.

Next up on the race schedule is the 2020 MOBIL 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advance Auto Parts
at Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, FL, starting at 12:05 p.m. EST on Friday, November 13th.
