Winward Racing 2021 Recap

Winward Racing is a professional sports car racing team based in Pasadena, Texas and in Altendiez, Germany. The team fields 6 AMG GT3 cars and 4 AMG GT4 cars, and is the largest AMG Customer racing team in the world.

2021 was a busy but exceptional racing season for the WWR team, competing in the following series:

IMSA WeatherTech sportscar Championship (IWSC)

IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge (IMPC)

SRO GT World Challenge America

SRO GT World Challenge Europe

DTM Masters Championship

The season began when Winward Racing and team co-drivers Russell Ward, Indy Dontje, Philip Ellis and Maro Engel earned the first Rolex 24 At Daytona victory for the Mercedes-AMG GT3 at Daytona International Speedway. The team and drivers secured the historic win in the team’s debut in the nation’s premier endurance race, which ran for the 59th time at Daytona International Speedway. In DTM, Winward secured the most AMG victories, as well as the most AMG Pole Positions. The SRO season also brought great success as Winward saw podiums at 6 out of 7 race weekends. Other highlights include an IMPC podium at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, as well as a double podium at both Road America and the famous Laguna Seca, and the fastest pit stop recorded all season with a sub 6 second pit stop.
