Event Preview: Road Atlanta

As Winward/HTP Motorsport heads to Road Atlanta this week, the Houston team is well aware that this is its last opportunity to make a ‘first impression’ in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge.

The two-car AMG GT4 squad travels to Georgia on the back of what was its most impressive and competitive performance of the season. The #57 Sonic Tools car of Bryce Ward and Christian Hohenadel fought for the lead for the second half of the race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca before running out of fuel on the final lap.

With both of the team’s cars having made the podium in 2018, this is the last opportunity in its debut season for Winward/HTP Motorsport to grab its maiden professional win. This fact is not lost on Team Owner and driver of the #33 Techemet car, Russell Ward. “We’ve had chances this year but for a number of reasons we have not been able to seal the deal. The whole team knows how important it is for us to finish the season off with a victory.”

His driving partner, Damien Faulkner, has his own scores to settle with the twelve turn 2.54 mile road course. “I was last on the Road Atlanta podium in 2001. I’ve never finished an endurance event here, through reliability mostly. It would be fitting to finish my last race with Winward on the podium, goodness knows we deserve it.”

Bryce Ward is keen to wipe away the memories of what could have been on the Monterrey Peninsula and for the final round he is once again partnered with Dutch hot shot, Indy Dontje. “I have not raced here but looking at the track on video and on the simulator, I am really excited to get out there and see it from the behind the steering wheel. I had a great time driving with Christian but it is also exciting to be back here with Indy, my regular partner.”

The HTP Motorsport regular from Alkmaar is excited to get back to the USA for the final IMSA event of the season. “I’m really looking forward to racing in the United States again. I had some racing duties in Europe which kept me out of the last couple of rounds but I’m excited to hit the track again in Atlanta. Bryce and I want to finish the season on a high and I have had plenty of laps of Road Road Atlanta on the simulator to optimize the time we have at this fantastic track!

Round Ten of the 2018 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, The Fox Factory 120, takes place at Road Atlanta on Friday, September 8th. Green Flag is at 1;25 EST and you can get session-by-session updates from the Official Winward Racing Twitter and Instagram accounts at and
