Race Recap: #CTMP120 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

Race Recap: #CTMP120 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

On Saturday, July 6, Winward Racing drivers took the green flag for the two-hour #CTMP120 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario from the sixth and 11th-place starting positions. When the checkered flag waved, the Winward Racing team brought home 16th and 21st place finishes.

Throughout the weekend, both of the Winward Racing entries were amongst the fastest in practice and qualifying. Unfortunately, the No. 33 Mobil1 Mercedes-AMG GT4, driven by Russell Ward and Indy Dontje, was impacted by a mechanical failure that was outside of the team’s control. The No. 33, driven by Christian Hohenadel and Bryce Ward, brought home a 16th place finish after a pit-road mishap.

The Winward Racing team continues to grow each and every week on and off the racetrack. While practice speeds and qualifying results have proved that the team is one to beat, the team continues to strive toward and focus on podium finishes. During the two-week break, the team looks forward to re-grouping and preparing for the Lime Rock Park 120 at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut on Saturday, July 20.

Lime Rock Park holds a lot of meaning to the team. In 2018, Winward Racing brought home its highest finish in its short history. For the first time ever, the No. 57, driven by Indy Dontje and Bryce Ward, took the checkered flag and landed on the podium with a second-place finish. In addition, the No. 33 finished in the sixth position. The team looks to capitalize on the success from last year and more with the goal of winning the upcoming event.

“It is exciting to be back at Lime Rock,” Russell Ward, co-driver of the No. 33 Mercedes-AMG GT4, said. “We had an awesome result with the #57 last year and hope to improve on that performance. Lime Rock is one of my favorite tracks. It is all action, no time to breathe. The straightaway is short and the track conditions change lap to lap with the dirt brought on track and the temperature. In my opinion, it is one of the more exciting tracks on the calendar.”

Next up on the race schedule is the two-hour Lime Rock Park 120 at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut at 11:10 a.m. EST. The race will be live on and tape-delayed and broadcasted on NBC Sports Network on Friday, July 26 at 2:00 p.m. EST.
